Carlton Coleman • Worship Leader

Carlton Coleman hails from Rockford, IL – home of Cheap Trick and the Rockford Peaches. He has a heart for ministry and a passion to lead God’s people into the Lord’s presence through sincere worship and praise. Over the past 20+ years, Carlton has served in many Worship Ministry capacities from Worship Leader to Minister of Music. He’s also had the privilege of sharing the stage with artists such as Fred Hammond, PFR, and DC Talk.  A former Judson (University) College Alum, Carlton serves as a Worship Leader and keyboardist for New Community.

Sarah Ekstrand • Office Manager

Sarah grew up in Central Africa (DRCongo and Cameroon) on the mission field.  Her parents are Covenant missionaries and currently work in DRCongo.  She moved to Chicago in 2008 to attend North Park University where she studied Elementary Education and received her Illinois teaching license.  Sarah lives in East Irving Park and spends most of her spare time hosting international students in her home who are in Chicago for school and/or to study English.  She also enjoys eating good food, playing games, and traveling to new places.

Zachs Gaiya • Community Life Pastor

Zachs was born and raised in a Christian family in Kaduna State, Nigeria. He has degrees from ECWA Theological Seminary Jos, Plateau State, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, South Hamilton, Massachusetts and currently completing a PhD in Intercultural Studies at Trinity International University. He has served in a variety of Christian Ministries in the last two decades. Zachs enjoys and loves it that he is married to Grace (a Pastor’s Kid) and they both have the privilege of being parents to Hesed, Haniel and Hanamel. He loves to travel, read, listen to peoples’ stories, watch football (not “football”). He wonders why God call him and give him the privilege of watching people discover and develop healthy and growing relationships with God and people.

Trevor Good • Facilities Manager

Trevor Good was born and raised in the Sunshine State of Florida. He came to Chicago as a college student to attend the Moody Bible Institute. He enjoyed the windy city so much that he decided to stay. Now, many moons later, we pick up the story with Trevor having a beautiful talented wife Alison and 6 adoring children. He enjoys eating yummy food, having parties, and hosting guests from around the world. Trevor works as a realtor part-time and owns a couple of properties in Chicago. He is excited to be serving as the Facilities Manager at New Community.

Pastor Peter Hong • Lead Pastor

Peter is a native Chicagoan. Since arriving in the U.S. at the age of 10 he has lived most of his life here in the greatest city in the world. He has completed a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology from Trinity International University (formerly known as TEDS). His passions in life include preaching Jesus as the goal of all of life, planting multicultural churches in major urban city­ centers that will proclaim Jesus as Lord, and pastoring kingdom missionaries that will make Jesus known to the ends of the earth. His “rock” (that’s with a small “r”) is the love of his life Jenny and his joys are his three beautiful children Parker, Sophie and Noah. When not in his office you will most likely find him hanging out at a local coffee shop reading, studying, meeting new people, and yes drinking a beverage.

Pastor Kaitlin Sobeck-Kim • Executive Pastor of Strategic Implementation

Kaitlin grew up living on both coasts of the USA in Connecticut and California. She landed in the middle and is now proud to call Chicago home. She first came to Chicago as an undergrad business student at Loyola University. After college, she worked full-time as an operations manager at a firm downtown while attending graduate school part-time. After eight slow and steady years of graduate school, she completed her Masters of Divinity and Masters of Business Administration from North Park Theological Seminary. During that time, she met and married her amazing husband Hana. Her passions include strategic organization to empower the church to fulfill God’s purposes, seeing people step into who God has fully made them to be, and learning how the church can serve the local community. During her free time, Kaitlin loves biking, baking giant 3-tiered cakes, and exploring the amazingly beautiful national parks in the U.S and abroad.

Yulee Lee • Chidren’s & Youth Ministry Director

Yulee was born in Korea but was raised in Salt Lake City where she grew up skiing and snowboarding on the Utah mountains. She is a graduate of Tufts University with a degree in political science, and her passions for organizational leadership and systems change led her to graduate studies at the University of Chicago where she earned a Masters in Public Policy. Yulee is currently at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School pursuing a Ph.D in Educational Studies. She has served as a Children’s and Youth Director for 9 years, and in her former life she worked for the City of Chicago’s Office of Violence Prevention as well as the American Academy of Pediatrics.  Yulee is happily married to Dave Lee and their son Dylan fills their lives with tremendous joy. In her free time (if she has any left from reading and research!), Yulee finds her happy place at the ballet barre, or in any medium where she can nurture her creative and artistic sides.

James Ross • Sunday Service Coordinator

James joined the staff of New Community in 2012 as the Sunday Service Coordinator. He oversees the ministries that make Sunday services work, from PowerPoint to sound, worship and musicians, and set up/take down of equipment in the sanctuary. He is a graduate of Roosevelt University where he studied jazz bass. When he is not working with New Community, he loves making music and spending time with his wife Jess, and sons Clyde and Oliver.
