Hospitality Ministry Spotlight

Getting to Know Alex Taylor, Church Life Ministry Lay Leader

Alex, why did you join the Church Life Ministry, or why are you passionate about it?
The short answer is—I’m the oldest of five siblings and the daughter of a pastor, so hospitality, fellowship, and church life are simply in my bones. Serving people has always been part of my story. In addition, my spiritual gifts are Helps, Faith, and Leadership, which naturally align with creating spaces where people feel welcomed, supported, and connected.

What’s something people don’t know about the Church Life Ministry?
First and foremost, we make the best coffee in all the land. But beyond that, Church Life and Fellowship are truly the foundation of who we are as a community. Without tables and chairs, there’s no space to gather, build relationships, create memories, and allow the community to grow. Our team exists to meet practical needs so the church can thrive together.

What’s something people don’t know about you?
I went back to school to earn my Professional Educator License (PEL), and I currently serve as a Preschool Teacher in a Head Start program in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood. I’m deeply passionate about Early Childhood Education and believe that the smallest humans deserve the opportunity to learn how to build and create healthy communities for the future.

In what other ways have you been involved in church or ministry?
This question sometimes makes me uncomfortable, because at the heart of it, my answer is simple: I want God to use me wherever He chooses. My gifts are His gifts, and I’m simply being obedient to what He asks of me. My desire is to help create space for our church to live out our mission statement.

Adam Gin

Our very own Adam Gin will be taking on a new role as New Com intern through May. We asked Adam a few questions so you can get to know him better:

Adam, what will you be doing at New Com during the internship?

I will be working with Mosaic youth. I’ll be a part of mentoring the students as well as leading the confirmation classes. I will also be working with Pastor X and doing sermon prep/ research assistance.

What are you most excited about as you serve in this role?

I’m overall excited about what God will be doing during this season. I’m excited for the partnership and the formation this internship will bring.

What’s something people may not know about you?

People don’t know that I was a dancer growing up. I was in a ballet school for 10 years, and in high school, I did jazz and contemporary, and also had limited experiences in hip hop and tap. I stopped dancing when I went off to college/ Chicago, but I might be able to do a pirouette these days.

What is a favorite fall weather activity of yours?

Fall is an exciting season to live on a college campus. There’s a buzz because of the start of a new year, the trees on campus turn to beautiful fall colors, and going to North Park soccer games is always a good time. If I’m not on campus,  you can find me and my wife, Acacia, enjoying new coffee shops and looking for a new cornfield maze to try.

Anything else you think people should know?

I really appreciate this community and am excited to serve you all in this way.
